  These are great subs. Like others said, don't let the location or exterior fool you. This is a great sub shop and everything is fantastic. They hand delivered my sub around the counter, which may not occur always, but it was a nice touch.
  
  For the negative, which actually could be a positive, but it's my d*mn opinion, LOL...the sub is very big, so you need a big yapper to take a bit. I had about half and had to store the rest for a later feasting.
  
  Definitely worth the stop in.

  I've always heard amazing things about Terry's, and I never made the effort to stop by. I finally did, and I LOVE their subs.
  
  I have always been partial to Bommarito subs in St. Clair Shores for the traditional "Italian sub" but Terry's has an amazing price, and a great quality product.
  
  The woman behind the counter was also very friendly and informative, and I am glad she was willing to take the time to elaborate on the various sub types. If you like cold cuts, give them a go!

  I'd driven by Terry's Sub Shop there on 15 Mile near Gratiot a thousand times but never gone in til recently. It seemed old school af and over the years gradually assumed more and more intrigue for me. I mean, it had to be some old fashioned, salt of the earth diamond in the rough where they did everything the right way to survive for all these years. That was my perception.
     The reality I found is that Terry's is pretty much a dump, and the steak and cheese sub I had, while being ample in size, wasn't too good. Meat was a bit on the fatty side without much flavor. I didn't get the hard bread I've heard people complain about but it wasn't anything special either.
    I figured Terry's was the type of joint I could sit and eat my sub, but upon entry found it was carryout only. It looked like it might not have always been that way. The bullet-proof glass at the counter (yup, it's that kinda party) was a few feet in front of a second counter in front of the kitchen that seemed like a natural place to take orders. Given the fact that there's a large card table with various business cards on it and a line of chairs against the front window, those few extra feet would provide enough space for a small dining area. But if you don't trust your neighborhood you don't really want people hanging out to eat.
    The walls, apart from one single retro sign, for Coca Cola or something were bare, yellowed white paint on the table and dingy orange on the bottom. They say the color orange is supposed to stimulate your appetite but it wasn't working at Terry's. A couple of panels on the drop ceiling were missing chunks and had big stains on them. If you have a bunch of cool, funky, antiquey stuff on the walls that looks interesting and cheery you can get away with stuff like this. Then, the place has character and is a charming dive. But when it's bare bones like this, with nothing to take your attention away from the squalor, it's just depressing.
    A small sub here is pretty big, and you can get a combo with chips and a water/soda for $9. (They do trust the clientele enough to keep the chips and beverages on the customer side of the glass.) The young woman behind the counter was nice but not at all outgoing. I got the sense that maybe she found the place depressing, too, but was trying to soldier on as best she could.
    Maybe Terry's was pretty cool twenty years ago. Maybe I should have gone there then.

  Let's be real, this area is not known for its cuisine and Terry's is not the exception. This place is disgusting. The food is terrible with low quality ingredients and the place is dirty. The only people that will tell you this food is good are old school east siders who's diets consist of mainly fast food. You'd be better off at subway as sad as that is.

  Terry's is a great sandwich place.  Do not let the exterior fool you, their sandwiches are to die for.  They are made in a sub fashion, and the bread they use is what makes it.  Get the special and you will not be disappointed.
